The Best Valentine Day Ideas | Colorado Wedding & Elopement Photographer
I don't know about you but I feel like there's a lot of pressure for Valentine's Day! I mean why the heck are roses three times their normal price?!?! And why you have to wait 3 hours to go out to eat or to get take out, for that matter. I think we all just want to feel appreciated and feel loved on Valentine's Day. I don't think that requires a dozen red roses or jewelry. Heck, the only person that has ever given me flowers on Valentine's Day was my dad. Which of course, I think it is the sweetest thing ever because he never wanted me to feel left out!
So... I know what you're thinking…. if you don't give flowers and jewelry or go out to dinner what are you supposed to do on Valentine's Day? Well, I'm here to give you some Valentine's Day ideas that I'll show your partner how much you appreciate and love them! Sharing experiences together is way more meaningful than the more traditional gifts. It’s the experiences that make you happier and connected. Maybe because one of my top five love languages is quality time but I value hanging out and doing new things together way more meaningful than anything my partner could purchase for me.
The Best Valentine Day Ideas
Play Music Together
Just play music! Write a song together, have a porch sesh, jam together or sway along to the music! There doesn't have to be any agenda or song you must master. It's just you two making some noise (if you’re me!), making some music together! Music has forever bonded people and brought them together! Go get your jam session on!
Making Dinner Together
What better way to show appreciation than filling each other’s tummies with something you made together. You can mix up this night a little differently than any other by making a new recipe or making breakfast for dinner. However you want to mix up dinner night, make it exciting. Valentine's Day is the perfect night to make something different together!
Play Cards Together
What's better than a little healthy competition? Says every single person on the Miller side of the family. You guys could play poker or rummy or if you wanted to make it a double date invite another couple over and play Spades. You are playing teams so it's a great way to be competitive together. Some healthy competition can bring you closer which is the goal for Valentine’s Day! To make it even more interesting add a friendly bet to the mix, make it an interesting fun one!
Write Love Letters To Each Other
If it's been a while since you expressed yourself with words, writing love letters to each other might be a great thing to do on Valentine's Day together. It would be a great tradition to start on Valentine's Day that you could look back on year after year. It’d also be really cool that on every Valentine's Day you look back on all the letters that you wrote to each other and reminisce about where you were and what was going on in your relationship.
Go Get A Couples Massage
Getting pampered with a couples massage is a perfect way to relax, ummmm any day of the week! Valentine's Day is a great excuse to go do it together! Get pampered and feel relaxed, let go of all the tension that life is throwing at you. You could go to a spa after work or you could schedule someone to come over to your home. As an added bonus you're getting your body ready for your next adventure together!
Make Something Sweet
Do you have a sweet tooth? Making dessert would be perfect to satisfy that tooth for Valentine’s day! It doesn't take too much time or preparation to make something sweet in the kitchen. You can go as low-key as break and bake or as elaborate as from scratch (What I sometimes call the box kits!). Whatever is sweet and fun and yummy to eat afterward without too much cleanup. But if you end up having a food fight, I don't know what to tell you about the easy cleanup thing... good luck!
Look Through Your Photo Albums Together
Take a trip down memory lane! Bring out all those old photo albums and look through them together! Sometimes we let them sit on the shelf for months without even a glance. Tonight's the night to remember all your favorite trips and everyday life together! This is why pictures are so important to me. They can literally take you back in time. It's so priceless to relive memories! I promise you'll be laughing together and maybe have a tear or two. What can I say I'm a sap!
Take A Hike
There's nothing like getting in the fresh air, especially in February, nothing will make you want to hold hands I like a mountain hike. I love adventuring to new spots new places not knowing what's around the next bend. It's thrilling and exciting and so much fun to do with your person so lace up those hiking boots and bring your headlamps and go get outside. We have time restraints in February but if it’s snowy, and the moon’s out, it’s just perfect for a night hike together. Just get outside for a hike, no matter what time it is!
Jump In The Tub
Jump in the hot tub together grab a beer and put on your favorite music and relax a little. It's a great way to reconnect without any distractions. It's outside under the stars and maybe even snowing on you just perfect and dare I say a little romantic. No better way to relax your muscles and reconnect and jumping in the hot tub.
Ski Day!
Why not, take the whole day and go skiing together! Nothing like a great day on the mountain together to make Valentine’s Day one to remember. You’ll have plenty of time to chat on the lifts and you’ll explore the mountain together. Maybe you’re going to all your favorite powder stashes because you know the mountain like the back of your hand or you’re discovering a whole new mountain. Make the whole day a Valentine’s Day Date!
So much of the time, Valentines’ Day lands on a weekday, and we’ve all got stuff to do during the week, sometimes it’s hard to make a busy day special. It’s super easy to just pick something up and call it good. I urge you to take the time to make a memorable experience together! Some of the ideas could be a 30-minute activity you could do, while others you could take the whole day! Just enjoy some quality time together, even if you think Valentine’s Day is cliché. Show your partner you really care about them.
